A maximum bet rule caps what you may stake in a single round while a bonus is attached to your account. Breach it once and the terms may allow the operator to remove the bonus and whatever was won with it. This page covers the clause itself: its wording, what it counts as one bet, when it applies, and where to read it.

The only bonus term you can breach in a single round
Wagering requirements, expiry windows and cashout caps are conditions on finishing something. You fail them by not completing the work, by running out of days, or by hitting a ceiling, and you can usually tell where you stand. The maximum bet rule is different in kind. It is a condition attached to each individual wager, and one round above the stated figure is a completed breach. Nothing has to be won and nothing has to be withdrawn for the clause to have applied.
That is why it belongs before the first bonus-funded spin rather than before the withdrawal: a breach on the first evening stays in the account history, and the history is what a finance review reads.
It also explains the harshness of the wording. The clause exists to stop a restricted balance being converted into a few large, high-variance bets that would clear a requirement by luck instead of turnover. An operator cannot price that out of a promotion, so it writes a condition that unwinds the arrangement instead. Whether a figure is reasonable is a separate question from whether it will be enforced.
What follows is the condition, not the market: no offer list, no ranking. It is also not a pokie's own bonus round. That is a game mechanic, and it meets this clause at one point only, where <em>buying</em> the feature counts as a bet.

Four things the sentence has to tell you
The clause is usually short, and a usable reading of it produces four separate answers.
The <strong>figure</strong> is the first and the least interesting. The <strong>unit</strong> it attaches to is the second and matters more: per spin, per round, per game round, per bet, per hand and per transaction are not interchangeable, and a document using two of them in different places has told you how carefully it was drafted. The <strong>window</strong> is the third, the period in which the cap binds. The <strong>remedy</strong> is the fourth, what the operator says it may do if the cap is exceeded. If the promotion's terms give fewer than four answers, the rest are in the general bonus terms or site terms, which are part of the same agreement.
Four shapes of the figure turn up in bonus documents, and they do not behave alike.
<div class="table-wrap"><table><thead><tr><th>Formulation</th><th>What it means while you play</th><th>The catch</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>A flat cash figure per round</td><td>One number, checked once</td><td>Identical on a small bonus and a large one</td></tr><tr><td>A stated percentage of the bonus</td><td>Scales with the credit you received</td><td>Granted or remaining? The answer changes everything</td></tr><tr><td>A stated percentage of the qualifying deposit</td><td>Scales with your own money, not the credit</td><td>A minimum deposit produces a very small cap</td></tr><tr><td>The lower of two of the above</td><td>Whichever binds harder on the day</td><td>Both inputs have to be checked, not one</td></tr></tbody></table></div>
A flat cash figure is the easiest to obey and the bluntest, since it applies whether you took the smallest qualifying deposit or the largest. A percentage carries one specific hazard: read whether it applies to the bonus <em>granted</em> or the bonus <em>remaining</em>. If it is the remaining balance, the permitted stake shrinks as you play, and a stake that was compliant at the start of the session can be a breach an hour later without you touching the stake control. That word decides whether this is a number you check once or re-check.
Four things the sentence has to tell you
What the terms count as one bet
The figure is arithmetic. The unit is where the money is actually lost, because several things that feel like one decision are not one bet.
A <strong>feature or bonus buy</strong> is a single wager at its full purchase price. The stake in the corner of the screen is irrelevant; the amount debited is the bet. It is the easiest breach to commit without deciding to, because the buy price is your stake multiplied by a figure the game sets. So one division is worth doing before the first bonus-funded round: the cap divided by the multiple printed on the buy button. That quotient, not the cap, is your largest usable stake on that game while the bonus is live, and if it lands below the game's minimum the feature is unavailable to you until the bonus is gone.
An <strong>ante, booster or double-chance setting</strong> multiplies the stake before the round starts, from the moment it is switched on and generally without being restated again. The cap applies to the increased amount, not to the base stake you selected.
<strong>Multiple hands or lines</strong> in one deal add rather than multiply, and raise the per-hand versus per-round question directly: no amount changes, only which amount is measured. The same goes for a side bet alongside a main bet, and for a double-up that re-stakes a return, which a document may treat as a fresh wager or as part of the round it followed.
Where the document does not settle which reading applies, assume the one producing the larger number: that is the reading under which a breach exists, and the operator decides whether one did.
Currency is the last wrinkle. A cap stated in one currency against a balance displayed in another converts at a rate that moves, so stay under the figure rather than on it.
Every round below is tested against that same figure, and each one reads its input somewhere different.
<div class="table-wrap"><table><thead><tr><th>What you are doing</th><th>What the clause tests</th><th>Where you read the input</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>An ordinary round at your selected stake</td><td>The stake itself</td><td>The stake control in the game</td></tr><tr><td>A round with an ante or booster switched on</td><td>The increased stake, not the base stake</td><td>The game's info panel, for the uplift it applies</td></tr><tr><td>A feature or bonus buy</td><td>The full amount debited for the buy</td><td>The price shown on the buy button at your stake</td></tr><tr><td>Several hands or lines in one deal</td><td>The deal or the hand, depending on the unit</td><td>The unit named in the promotion terms</td></tr><tr><td>A gamble or double-up on a return</td><td>A fresh wager, or part of the round it followed</td><td>The same unit sentence, which usually settles both</td></tr></tbody></table></div>

When the bonus is still attached and you think it is not
The breaches worth guarding against are not deliberate large bets. They are ordinary stakes placed in an account state the player did not know they were in.
<strong>Balance order</strong> is the first cause. Where a cash balance and a bonus balance coexist, the terms specify which is drawn down first. If bonus funds go first, every round is a bonus round until that balance empties, whatever you deposited for. If cash goes first, the cap can still bind, because the clause is normally written against a bonus being <em>active on the account</em> rather than against bonus money being staked. Those are different triggers, and only the one in the document counts.
<strong>The tail after wagering</strong> is the second. Completing a requirement does not always detach the restriction the moment the counter reaches zero: some terms release it on completion, some on the next withdrawal request, some after a review. A large stake in that gap is the breach nobody expects, because the player has finished the work and reasonably considers the bonus over.
<strong>Inherited settings</strong> are the third. An autoplay configuration or a remembered quick-stake set before the bonus was claimed does not reset when the credit arrives, and no interface announces the conflict. The first round after claiming is worth looking at twice.
<strong>Overlapping promotions</strong> are the fourth. Where two bonuses are active the stricter cap usually governs both, so claiming a second offer can quietly reduce the stake you were already playing at.
The question is not whether you are staking bonus money, but whether the account has an active bonus under the definition in the terms.
Conditions are published by the operator and change without notice. Read the live page before you act on anything here.
When the cap removes a game rather than making it risky
A cap reads as an instruction to play smaller. On some games it is not an instruction you can follow, because the game has a floor of its own and the two figures cross.
Live dealer tables carry a minimum stake per hand set by the table, shown on the lobby tile and again at the table itself. Where that minimum sits above the stated cap there is no compliant way to play that table while the bonus is attached: the answer is a different game, not a smaller chip, and nothing in the interface will say so. The same crossing reaches pokies through the buy price.
Jackpot and progressive titles cross in the opposite direction. Where a game requires a stake at or above a stated level to qualify for the top prize and that level sits above the cap, the compliant stake is the ineligible one. The eligibility condition is in the game's info panel or paytable, the cap is in the promotion terms, and nothing on screen compares them for you.
The clause also meets the exclusion list, and not in the direction people hope. An excluded game contributes nothing to the requirement, but where the cap binds on the account rather than on the funds it still applies there. Moving to an excluded game for a larger stake is close to the manoeuvre the clause was drafted to catch, and weighting and the bet cap are separate clauses that apply at once.
So the preparation is a shortlist, not a rule. Before claiming, note for each game you intend to use its minimum stake, whether it carries a buy or an ante, and the multiple on that feature. Compare the list to the cap once, at the start.
When the cap removes a game rather than making it risky
Nothing stops you at the moment it happens
Compliance is the player's job and detection is the operator's, and the two happen at different times. That gap is the whole failure mode.
A cashier can be built to block the oversized round: refuse the stake, grey out the buy button, or cap the stake selector while a bonus is active. Where that is implemented the clause is near impossible to breach by accident, and the implementation tells you something about how the operator treats its own rules. Where it is not, the bet is accepted, the balance updates, and the account carries a flagged round that surfaces when somebody looks at it, usually at withdrawal review.
So the breach and the consequence can be weeks apart, with a completed requirement and a verified identity sitting in between. The player describes this as a withdrawal refused after the fact. The operator describes a bonus that was void from the moment of that round, with everything downstream of it never having been withdrawable. Both descriptions fit the same account history, and the agreement decides which one governs.
Finding out which implementation you are dealing with costs one round. Claim the bonus, open an eligible game, try to set a stake above the stated cap, and try the buy button if the game has one. If the interface refuses, you have a guardrail. If it accepts, you have none, and the discipline is yours for the rest of the requirement.

What a breach lets them take, and where that is written
The remedies in use are not one thing. Narrowest to broadest: the winnings from the offending round only; the bonus and the winnings derived from it, leaving the deposit intact; the bonus plus the whole balance accrued while it was active; and, at the broad end, the balance including the deposit, which usually appears alongside a general abuse clause rather than alone.
Which of those applies is a question about wording, and the sentence carrying it is often not on the promotion page. That page is the shortest document in the set and the least likely to hold the remedy, which is how a player reads the cap correctly and is still surprised by the consequence. If the promotion terms stop at the figure, keep going into the general bonus terms and the site terms; <a href="/bonus-terms/how-to-read-terms/">reading bonus terms</a> covers which document prevails.
One ambiguity belongs to this clause specifically. A remedy written as voiding the bonus and any winnings leaves open what happens where deposit and bonus-derived money have mixed, the normal state of an account after an evening. Some documents settle it by reverting the balance to the deposit as it stood at claim time. If your balances were never held apart, that sentence decides what you keep.
If the offer in front of you is Safe Casino's or WinCrown's, run the stake test above on the live page rather than taking a figure, a unit or a remedy from here: open an eligible game through the <a href="/go/partner/">partner link</a> and see whether the interface lets you set a stake above the cap that promotion states. Those links are commercial placements, and nothing here reports what either operator's conditions say.
On recourse, the order is operator support, then the operator's own complaints procedure, then the offshore licensor named in its footer. Online casino services are not licensed in Australia and the operators described here are offshore, so no domestic regulator will read a sole-discretion voiding down to something milder. That is the argument for obeying this clause rather than planning to argue about it.
The pre-flight, and what to do if you think you breached it
Before the first bonus-funded round, write down four answers: figure, unit, window, remedy. Searching the terms for “maximum bet”, then “per spin”, then “single” is what locates the first two. “Void”, “forfeit” and “remove” locate the fourth.
Then check three things in the game itself: the current stake, the autoplay stake, and whether a buy or ante feature exists and what it costs at the stake you are using. If the buy price at your stake exceeds the cap, the honest options are a smaller stake, a different game, or leaving the feature alone until the bonus is gone. There is no version of the terms where one buy is acceptable because it only happened once.
If you think a breach has occurred, stop playing on that balance first, because continuing only adds rounds to a period that may already be flagged. Capture the account history showing the round, the amount staked and the timestamp, and save the terms as published that date, since terms change without version numbers. Then ask support one specific question: whether that round breached the maximum bet condition and, if so, which remedy applies. “Is my bonus still okay” does not get a usable answer.
Do not bet on to re-earn a balance you may already have lost under the terms, and do not open a second account. Both turn one technical breach into a broader problem with worse remedies attached.
This page cannot tell you any operator's figure, unit or remedy, and it does not estimate how often breaches are enforced. The authoritative version of this clause is the one published on the day you accepted the offer, which is why the habit worth having is a saved copy rather than a remembered number.
The only bonus term you can breach in a single round — at a glance
Questions people actually ask
What is the max bet rule on a casino bonus?
It is a term capping what you may stake in a single round while a bonus is active on the account. The figure, the unit it applies to, the period it covers and the consequence of exceeding it are all set by the operator's terms, so read them on the live promotion page rather than assuming a standard.
Can one bet really void my whole bonus?
That is what the clause is written to allow. One round above the cap is a completed breach, and the remedy sentence decides how far the consequence reaches: the offending round, the bonus and what it produced, or the balance built while the bonus was active. Read that sentence in the promotion terms, and if it is not there, in the general bonus terms.
Does a feature buy count as one bet?
Read the unit sentence on this exact point. Where the terms cap a single bet, wager or round, the amount debited for the buy is that bet, not the base stake shown on screen. Because the buy price is a multiple the game sets, divide the cap by the multiple on the buy button to get the largest stake you can use on that game.
Does the max bet rule apply when I am playing my own cash?
It can. The trigger differs between documents: some clauses bind only while bonus funds are being staked, others while any bonus is active on the account. Read which of the two your terms use, and read which balance the terms draw down first.
How do I find the max bet clause in the terms?
Search the promotion terms for "maximum bet", then "per spin" and "single" to pin the unit, then "void", "forfeit" and "remove" for the consequence. If the promotion page is silent, the clause is in the general bonus terms or site terms, and any precedence clause tells you which document governs.
What should I do if I think I breached it?
Stop playing on that balance, save the account history showing the round, stake and timestamp, and save the terms as published that day. Then ask support whether that specific round breached the condition and which remedy is being applied. Do not keep betting to recover the balance and do not open another account.
